  • B. Black and Sons — Carries wool & tailoring supplies. Located in LA.

  • Denver Fabrics Top pick — Large selection, including wool, linen, velvet, etc. at good prices.
  • Designer Fabrics — Silk (including taffeta), velvet, faux fur, brocades, and more.
  • Dharma Trading Co. Top pick — Sells silk, cotton and hemp cloth at really good prices. Most fabrics come in white, ready to dye. Sells many different kinds of dyes, too, and the staff give great advice on dying. Located in San Rafael, CA.
  • Discount Fabrics USA — Fabrics for home decor.
  • Distinctive Fabric — Fabrics for clothing: dupioni, silk velvet, etc.
  • Dollar Fabric — Carries all kinds of fabric: silk, wool, cotton, dancewear (stretch), etc. Prices aren't spectacular, but they do carry a large selection, especially of silk.
  • Edinburgh Imports: Fur — A variety of synthetic and natural furs.
  • eQuilter — Mostly geared to quilters, but has cool Elizabethan & celtic fabrics, cloak clasps, etc
  • EvaDress — "Fine Couture Fabrics." Silk, wool and buckram; also nice stiff cotton organdy (hard to find!) They also carry vintage patterns.
  • Fabric Direct — Sells by the yard & by the bolt. Prices are good, but selection varies.
  • Fabric Dragon — Trim, books, and a little fabric
  • Fabric Mart — Silk, linen, wool, etc — some really cheap. Seems to sell a lot of remainders from clothing designers.
  • Fabric.com Top pick — Probably the largest online fabric store. Lots of different fabrics available: cottons, linens, wools, etc. Good prices. Yards are 39".
  • Fabrics-store.com Top pick — Linen, linen and more linen. And some cotton & blends. Good prices.
  • Fabrics.net — Sells wool, linen, silk, hemp, ramie, etc. Prices are high, but they have a large and interesting selection of fabrics. They also have a lot of articles about fabrics, fabric care, etc.
  • Farthingales Top pick — Several different kinds of coutil, crinaline, net, and muslin. Also corsetry supplies, findings, grommets, etc.
  • Farmhouse Fabrics — Cotton velvet, batiste, lawn, many kinds of silk, Swiss organdy, Libery of London, lace, etc. They have a really lovely selection.
  • Fashion Fabrics Club — Fabric at discount and wholesale prices. Large and varied selection.
  • Fishmans Fabrics — Carries silk, wool, linen, velvet, etc. Sells retail and wholesale, and gives bulk discount on some items. Prices not listed online....
  • Foust Textiles — Sells by the bolt. Seems to only sell cottons/blends & fleece.
  • G&S Dye — (Canada) Carries similar products to Dharma Trading: silks, cottons, linens and dyes.
  • Ginnys Fabrics — Nice, but small, selection, very expensive.
  • GotFabric.com Top pick — Lots of hawaiian fabric. Carries the Victoria Jones patterns (muumuus) at the best price I've found online.
  • Haberman Fabrics Top pick — Great fabric store in Michigan, selection online is limited though.
  • Hancock Fabrics - The chain store's website - pretty good selection online.
  • Hart's Fabric — Carries cotton, hemp, silk, etc. Store locted in Santa Cruz, CA.

  • Henry Bertrand Silks — (UK) All kinds of silk fabrics, including taffetas, satin, dupion and velvet. Does not sell to the public.
  • Herts Specialist Fabrics — (UK) "Supplier of cloth to the Historical Reenactment World." Sells linen, wool, damask and brocade. Will also make custom reproduction fabrics. Prices not listed online.
  • HouseFabric.com — Discount home decorator fabrics. Carries damasks, brocades, velvets, etc.
  • Hyena — Silk fabrics & velvets. Very beautiful stuff, but expensive.
  • International Fabric Collection — Cotton & silk fabrics from around the world, mostly for qulting.
  • Istok Enterprises — Sells Russian/Greek orthodox fabrics — silks, velvets, brocades, etc.
  • Kim Katz Vintage Textiles — Vintage kimono & obi fabric. Really beautiful!
  • Krishti Silks — Sells dupioni $8-9/yd. Minimum orders of 10-50 yds, depending on fabric. Also sells silk carpets, curtains, scarves, sarees, shawls, etc.
  • Mendels Far Out Fabrics — In San Francisco, CA. Carries hemp cloth, cotton prints, etc.
  • Michaels Fabrics — Linen, cotton, silk & wool at great prices. Selection varies.
  • Moondance Color Co. — Wool fabrics at decent prices. Also carries spinning equipment, thread, rug kits, etc.
  • Moonlight Fabrics — "Unique and luxurious fabrics at very reasonable prices." Large selection of silks & linen.
  • Osgood Textiles — Decorator fabrics at discount prices. Doesn't currently sell online, but does do mail order.
  • PeriodFabric.com Top pick — Cotton, wool, linen, jean, canvas, oil cloth, etc. Occasionally carries linsey-woolsey, fustian, hemp, marquis, jean wool, etc. Some really good prices. (Was Hamilton Dry Goods)
  • Plumridge Silks — Wholesaler based in L.A. Carries silk dupioni, taffetta, etc. No prices listed online, except in clearance section.
  • Renaissance Fabrics Top pick — Silk, linen, wool, and cotton fabric, and other costuming supplies. Prices are good. Stock varies. She carries lots of cotton velvets/velveteens.
  • ReproDepot Fabrics — Sells vintage (mid-20th century) reproduction cotton print fabric. Also buttons, ribbons, and patterns for quilts, pillows, bags, etc
  • Reproduction Fabrics Top pick — Sells beautiful cotton fabric reproducing prints from 1775 thru 1970. Prices are about $7-10/yd.
  • Sawyer Brook Fabrics — "Sawyer Brook Fabrics is the premiere online source for high-quality, fashion fabrics and designer buttons."
  • SewBiz Fabrics — Sells wool, cotton, rayon, linen, etc. Also appliques, collars, venice lace, trims, ribbon, braid, gimp, soutache, webbing, elastic, etc.
  • Sewing Central — Carries silk noil, silk dupioni, linen, wool, etc. Also patterns, books, and corset supplies.
  • Silk Connection Top pick — Based in Healdsburg, CA. Silks, cottons, & linens. Really great prices! Discounts for bulk orders. Most fabric comes in white, a few in black.
  • Silk Road Fabrics — Carries a large selection of silks, cottons, linens, tencel, and more. Prices are average.
  • St. Theresa Textile Trove — Geared to quilting, cottons prints from around the world. Also sells buttons, beads, and charms.
  • Stone Mountain and Daughter Top pick — Awesome selection of linens, silks, cottons and wools.  They don't sell on-line, but they do have a swatch service (3-4 swatches for free, up to 20 swatches for a $5 fee) and great customer service.  Definitely worth a visit to the store located in Berkeley, CA.
  • Stretch House —Sells all kinds of stretch fabrics, wholesale and retail.
  • Super Silk — Really good prices on silk. Discount for bulk orders.

  • Thai Silver Silk — Thai site that sells a small selection of thai silk fabrics, also scarves and silver jewelry.
  • Trimfabric.com — Discounted prices on fabrics and trim. Selection varies. Some fabrics sold by the bolt.
  • Tutu.com Top pick — Net & notions, coutil, hooping, bones, velvet, tulle, etc. Everything you need to make ballet costumes.
